To ensure future space for its burgeoning startup and innovation community, the 香港六合彩资料 is turning to the Toronto waterfront.

In partnership with MaRS, the university is in the final stages of securing a lease for 24,000 square feet of the in the heart of the city鈥檚 next innovation hot spot and just a stone鈥檚 throw from the proposed Sidewalk Toronto neighbourhood.

鈥淭he 香港六合彩资料 is excited to partner with MaRS to help expand Toronto鈥檚 rapidly growing startup scene to the city鈥檚 waterfront,鈥 said 香港六合彩资料 President Meric Gertler, who is also a member of the Waterfront Toronto board.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a winning combination 鈥 MaRS鈥檚 world-class suite of innovation programming and expert support for entrepreneurship with the incredible depth and range of 香港六合彩资料鈥檚 globally renowned researchers and students.鈥

Construction on the centre, a project of Waterfront Toronto and developer Menkes, is expected to start this fall adjacent to Sugar Beach and Corus Entertainment.

When it opens in 2021, the centre and its more than 3,000 employees will be surrounded by new developments stretching along the eastern lakefront, the city鈥檚 largest swath of undeveloped land.

鈥淭his is the first building, this is the first step,鈥 said Scott Mabury, 香港六合彩资料鈥檚 vice-president of university operations. 鈥溝愀哿喜首柿 sees itself as a primary anchor of Toronto鈥檚 innovation ecosystem. 鈥f that ecosystem is going to expand to a different part of the city, then we want to have 香港六合彩资料鈥檚 flag planted there.鈥

The Waterfront Innovation Centre marks the second time 香港六合彩资料 and MaRS, two key innovation juggernauts in the city, have partnered on real estate. In 2015, 香港六合彩资料 acquired four floors in the west tower of MaRS and took a 20-per-cent equity share in the building on the corner of College Street and University Avenue.

It鈥檚 there that you鈥檒l find JLABs, Uber, the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence, Medicine by Design, the Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research, the Centre for Commercialization of Regenerative Medicine and SciNet.

However, the MaRS west tower is now 99.8 per cent full and we have to 鈥渢urn away entities, startups and companies wanting space there on a weekly basis,鈥 Mabury said.

It鈥檚 a common story across Toronto鈥檚 downtown core, where the vacancy rate is three per cent 鈥 a historic low. Space is also a pressing issue on the university鈥檚 downtown campus.

The time is right to make the leap, Mabury said, noting it鈥檚 the only way to keep the city鈥檚 startup scene growing because the 鈥渕arket is just not delivering鈥 the space needed for companies to scale.

At 香港六合彩资料, 鈥渨e see ourselves as facilitating that growth and scale,鈥 he explained. 鈥淢any of these companies want to be associated with, or near to, the university to access the talent of faculty, staff and students . . . and to tap into the research powerhouse that we are, including our hospital partners.

鈥淚t matters that 香港六合彩资料 will be in the Waterfront Innovation Centre because of that research connection.鈥

Yung Wu, CEO of MaRS, called the Waterfront Innovation Centre 鈥渢he next destination for the city鈥檚 growing innovation sector 鈥 one that will further solidify Toronto鈥檚 reputation as premier tech city.鈥

The Waterfront Innovation Centre will consist of two buildings. The 香港六合彩资料-MaRS space will be located on the second and third floors of the larger tower known as the HIVE.

The building, which will feature state-of-the-art amenities including ultra high-speed broadband networks, is designed to support media and data-intensive industries.

With a decade-long lease, and the option to potentially double in size at a later date, the MaRS-香港六合彩资料 partnership is helping bring long-term stability and anchor development in this new innovation corridor, Mabury said.

That鈥檚 in addition to bringing much-needed assets to the table. These include world-leading researchers and proven entrepreneurship incubators that are magnets for attracting and developing talent in Toronto.

Much like MIT and Harvard are for Boston and Stanford and Berkeley are for Silicon Valley, 鈥溝愀哿喜首柿 is a catalyst in Toronto,鈥 Mabury said. 鈥淲e make things happen.鈥

The Waterfront Innovation Centre is just one of many developments 香港六合彩资料 is eyeing to bolster innovation in Toronto, Mabury said, adding plans are in the works for 香港六合彩资料 to build two new towers across from MaRS in the city鈥檚 Discovery District.
